Many many moons ago, I met Andy Guthrie, through a mutual friend, a sax player, who brought us all together to jam a bit. Later I moved to Glasgow but one day I mentioned to Andy that I was going to visit Leam and he told me he had a gig doing dubby, housy stuff, and asked if I want to join in on guitar? That, folks, was how Banco de Gaia began.

Andy and I went on to work together on Maya and Last Train to Lhasa, and he has since then remixed me numerous times in a variety of styles under a plethora of names. Aside from working with me, Andy also went on to found the psy-trance acts Prana and Medicine Drum, touring the world with both of them.

It’s an honour to today release his debut 100th Monkey album, “Space Dubs and Other Miscellany“, which collects previously released, hard to find and unreleased tracks recorded between 1992-2017. From his 90s dub releases on the Planet Dog and Dubmission labels to the tracks written for Flying Rhino’s Eclipse compilations – as well as unreleased or little known gems – this collection shows both the variety and coherence of his work.

You can stream or download “Space Dubs and Other Miscellany” from Bandcamp and all the usual outlets via https://smarturl.it/spacedubs.

To cebrate the release, Andy’s joining me for a couple of the final dates of the 30 Times Around the Sun tour: he’s playing with me at Norwich Arts Centre on Friday 22nd, and then in London at the Sebright Arms on Sunday 24th. (He’s also playing tonight in Coventry with dr trippy)
As well as Andy’s album, my Disco Gecko label is releasing a new EP from dr trippy next week, which you can pre-order here. Then there are plans for something special in December, so to keep in touch, please follow my Spotify playlist.
Cheers
Toby
