I miss the Megadogs too. However I just found Micheal Dogs myspace and discovered he's the guy behind Pushmipulyu which I have been caning for a while now. He bangs on about some festival they are doing. Check it out. Also check out www.dragonfestival.com which is a cheeky bit of mayhem we've come up with down in Spain where you can still get away with it!
megadog, the lights were trained on the people who had paid! We all had at least 1 thing in common,... we had paid our money to see hear, experience the same thing. I made longterm friends in that special atmosphere' thank you
Does anyone remember why the herbal tea party moved on from Hulme working man's club? did it close down?
anyone go to an Eldroth party?
sorry for bumping an old thread. for me i first experienced club dog at their 5th birthday bash @ the rocket in 90/91 while off my skull on acid. too many good memories of their time in london before they moved to manchester. anyway heres the first 45 minutes of Eat Static @ The Rocket, London (20.05.1994) for anyone whos trying to remember the night .. it was the one where eat static kept blowing the system, and toby had to keep fixing it. i bought this cassette off of an american indian guy in camden market in 94 along with another eat static tape from megadog @ the rocket in late november 93. both nights i was at. http://www.zshare.net/audio/6780617797f0bc2d/ pretty decent recording seeing it was recorded in the audience. and you can hear the american guy chatting.
Your a star oneseven, cheers for this, took me right back!! Wasn't at that gig but saw the Northampton leg of the tour that year..
Just found my Manchester and Liverpool Megadog ticket stubs from 1994. I went to all of them with my mate Richard. Richard and I had been at school together from the mid 70s and we grew up going to see the likes of Budgie and Judas Priest at Liverpool Empire. We were also heavily into Prog, in my own case Tull and Yes but also Hawkwind, Tangerine Dream, and Steve Hillage. By the 80s, I was into the local folk scene and mad keen on Martin Carthy and Richard Thompson. Still am too. A strange way into the weird world of Dog eh ? Like most of you, I remember little of these events. It was largely a case of enjoy then go home and forget. But it was the only time (I think) that I saw Hillage live (2nd July '94) with System 7. Bit disappointing really. System 7 were neither ambient nor dance. I wanted Hillage to sing and let rip with some proper guitar. DJing was bogus to me. All the same, these were good nights as a whole. I was really into The Orb and Ultramarine who tapped into the 70s zeitgeist with a modern vibe. At the one of the Manc Academy gigs, I remember a girl fire-eater outside setting her dreads alight and then there were the three weird people on stilts looking rather demonic and must have freaked anyone on hallucinogens. I didn't indulge except for the odd joint or two. Sat 5th Feb 1994, Megadog 5. Manc Academy: Ultramarine, Astralasia, Autechre Sat 5th March 1994, Megadog 6. Manc Academy: Transglobal Underground, Fluke, Banco De Gaia Fri 6th May 1994, Megadog at Mountford Hall, Liverpool University: Drum Club and Timeshard Sat 2nd July 1994, Megadog 9. Manc Academy: System 7, Ege Bam Yasi, Children Of The Bong
I went to a few megadogs in the early 90s - at The Rocket and Brixton Academy. The Midi showcase gig at Brixton sticks in my mind, as does the huge robot dude wandering around at the Rocket - and the bloody gyroscope - my god. Great nights, still have the black Dog sweatshirt hanging up - it saw some action.
From Bob Dog on Facebook -"For those of you who are interested - It's all true, we may well be coming back in all our original finery to make an appearance at Brixton on 25/09/10 with also a possible Manchester Academy show on 01/10/10. You will all be the first to know when we confirm what's happening and with who although Orbital are definitel...y in the frame - Do any of you have requests for other people to book???? Do you want a retro love in with Eat Static/System 7 etc or would you prefer us to be as mad as we always were? Let us know!!! Love Bob and Michael Dog xxx"
