Next month sees the release of the 20th Anniversary Edition of “The Magical Sounds of Banco de Gaia“. I started recording the album in my new Somerset studio soon after coming off a tour with Moby (which was as little fun as you can imagine), but rather than rush the process, as had happened with previous projects, I decided to take my time. Two years later, not only was the album finished, but I’d started a label, Disco Gecko Recordings, and found a new partner in America, Six Degrees.

As well as the original album, the 20th Anniversary Edition comes with a bonus disc featuring an unreleased mix from the time, a stunning live medley, a fan remix I discovered on SoundCloud, two modern remixes by fellow Geckoes (dr trippy and Simon Power) plus a live recording from WOMAD festival (Please find the full tracklist below). As before, this is a numbered, limited edition, physical only release, with no downloads and streams available.

The album isn’t due to come out officially until July 12th but you can pre-order it now direct from me via the Banco website. As with the previous reissues, I am happy to sign or dedicate pre-orders – if you want this, please add a note with your order.

Gigwise, I’m coming to London this November for my first solo live audiovisual show in 5 years. I’m playing at The Sebright Arms on Saturday November 23rd and my old mucker dr trippy will be warming up. I’ve got a handful of festival shows before then, a gig in Liverpool at the end of September and then will be coming to Prague the weekend after London (see below for ticket links). There may well be more shows this autumn, so please follow me on Facebook or Songkick to keep up to date.

In other news, Andrew Heath and I released the second single from our ‘Motion’ album last week: ‘In Air on Water (North), Pt. 1‘ was inspired by a trip to Yorkshire, where we recorded gliders and planes on a beautiful summer’s day, along with sounds from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the boats navigating it. Rather aptly, our trip ended with a spectacular thunderstorm. You can see the video here or stream via smarturl.it/inaironwater

Tonight is the last night of our intimate shows (in Birmingham), and then next month we take ‘Motion’ out into the fields, playing at The Little Chill and Samsara Festivals.

Finally, to keep up to date with releases on my Disco Gecko label, please follow my Spotify playlist, the cunningly titled Disco Geckoes.

Cheers
Toby
