I’ve been releasing music by the duo S.O.N.A.T.I.O.N. on my Disco Gecko label for some time now, and in return for Mark & Olivier remixing We Are Here for the 20th Anniversary Edition of You Are Here, I recently remixed a track of theirs called Take Flight. Although I loved the sound palette of the original, it took me a while to find a way into the remix . Once I found the first step though, it all flowed smoothly and was a very satisfying process.

Monday just gone, July 6, marked 20 years since Farewell Ferengistan first came out. Back then we held a launch party at the Curzon Cinema in Mayfair, London and as the cinema had a great surround sound system (what would now be referred to as immersive audio) I remixed the album into 5.1 surround format to play at the launch. It was very well received but then spent the subsequent years sitting on a hard drive as there was no viable way to release it.
20 years later, streaming services such as Apple Music, Amazon and Tidal have made immersive mixes of albums available in Dolby Atmos, the now preferred format for cinemas. On a suitable system the music surrounds the listener, coming from all sides and above. Even on headphones it sounds like the music is coming from beyond your ears rather than inside your head.With this in mind, I have re-mastered the 5.1 mix of the album into the Dolby Atmos format and am very happy to announce that it is now available on the appropriate streaming services so everyone will have the chance to hear this album in all its immersive glory: https://fanlink.tv/ferengistan
Gigwise: I make my Mabfest debut next weekend and then am playing an ambient set at the magical Whirl-Y-Fayre in early August. Further ahead, I’ve my first live show in Ireland for aeons in September, plus will be returning to Off the Tracks Festival and Mycology in Chatham.
